The #WASHinWAR photo exhibition was presented during the annual May pilgrimages to Åsebakken and Øm, two important gathering places for Denmark’s Catholic community that bring together pilgrims, clergy, families, and visitors from across the country each year.

A special feature of the exhibition was an interactive installation where visitors could try carrying a container of water themselves. This offered a tangible understanding of the reality faced by people who, because of the war, have lost reliable access to water and are forced to travel long distances to meet their families’ basic needs.

The exhibition is part of the international #WASHinWAR campaign, which raises awareness of water security, environmental resilience, and the protection of critical infrastructure during armed conflict.
Together with UN Live – Museum for the United Nations, preparations are underway for a major #WASHinWAR event that will take place in Aalborg this September. At the same time, the campaign is expanding its cooperation with Caritas Denmark and preparing new events in Copenhagen aimed at drawing international attention to Ukraine’s experience in protecting water infrastructure and addressing the consequences of war.
